Lost cd/dvd drive in m_d2006

Hi all,a sad tale indeed..While trying to get mplayer and xine/totem to play dvd's I somehow wiped my dvd drive icon from the Devices folder on my kde desktop..I tried to link it back but kept getting a error saying unable to write and it would not let me link it there..I then created a link to the drive device on my desktop which partially works..
By that I mean it will open files from the cd/dvd drive but will not load programs from my source dvd that I used to install the OS in the first place..K3b will see the drive but will not burn any cd or dvd saying it cannnot address memory even after removal and reinstall..I am not sure what if other packages the are required to use the cd or dvd will work or not..
Here is the line for my cdrom in my /etc/fstab..
/dev/hdc /mnt/hdc auto umask=0022,users,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,rw 0 0

Also heres the result of ls -l /dev/dvd

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Mar 7 07:41 /dev/dvd -> hdc

I need help trying to get this otherwise fine OS back the way it was
B4 I fried it..
Can anyone suggest something short of reinstalling..
Please keep it simple as you can tell I am a noob..
Thank you for any suggestions,
jolphil

Right Click on your desktop and Create New ... Link to Application

Under General Tab ... call it Devices
Pick an icon to use

Under Application Tab ...

Fill in Comment: This folder shows you accessible block devices

Fill in Command:

konqueror --profile devices device:/

That should do it. OK your way out.

Cheers.

Hi NoStop,Thank you for you comment..
I did as you suggested but either I missed something or it just did not do it..I created a applications link on the desktop called devices and the added your comments but there was no path?thus nothing would open..I had previously created a link to a "device"(see my first post)
and it works partially but resides on my desktop I would like to create a link in the desktop devices file as it was when it was first installed..That way when I click on the desktop devices icon my cdrom/dvd icon would be there along with the other block devices...
any suggestions how to do that?
Thanks again,
jolphil

BTW the reason I wanted to put it back there is so my other programs will properly run ie: k3b etc.
