Hi all - installed Mandrake 9.1 on my lap top today and have already run into a problem. When I log off from KDE it should put me back to a log on screen, instead I hear a beep and the screen turns blank and does nothing else. It's almost like it went into standby mode, only I can't get out of it - if I touch the power button it turns off (As opposed to having to hold it down).
Unfortunately I'm at work so I haven't tried it with restart, I have a feeling this problem is limited to logging off.
Thanks for any help, BTW - I'm starting to fall in love with Linux. Still scared to go online for a long period of time because of fears that I don't have it secured, otherwise few complaints...
in KDE, go start menu=> configuration => Control Centre, and there go to components=>Session Manager. check the "Confirm logout" box and on "default action after logout", choose "Login as different user"
when you logout next time, a user list should appear, with buttons Reboot (restart) and Halt (Shut Down)
I got that screen, but the problem is when I select either of the options. Even if I choose reboot it does the same thing (Doesn't even show the process shutting down)
I was having the same problem. I cannot remember for sure were it is at but try going into the control center and then to the system tab and click on the traffic light and change your login in manager to something other than the Mandrake login.
yes, it just the "simplified version" of graphic niterface shutdown...i use it all the time
p.s. you don't have to open the console every time, you can simply click on "enter command" (something like that) in your kicker (start menu) and write halt (or reboot...)
