kernel recompiling and mental blocks

must admit i've not tackled the kernel recompile yet,
gotta admit, it's a bit daunting

just as a matter of interest...

on an Athlon 1700+ /768MB RAM
how long, approximately, would a recompile take????

any good tutorials on this one????

not much longer than time to go and make a big s...

download the lastest kernel source from the "updates" folder on any mdk FTP...
search for "kernel compile howto" on the net, there are many...
compiling is pretty staright forward anyway!

basically you need to be 200% sure of the hardware config you have.

BBF Article: Compiling a Custom Linux Kernel

"The focus of this article, is to build a custom Linux kernel for your server or desktop machine. The kernel will be optimized for the machine's processor, and will contain support only for the drivers and features that are going to be needed. Another reason to compile a kernel is to add support for a feature that is missing from a vendor supplied kernel, or to get a piece of hardware working."

This artical also has screen shots.
