Hi only my second post here and new today

Ive being playing around with Mandrake for around 2 months now and ive just found of theme's such as the StyleXP winbl0ws XP theme's. I found one I liked that had a RPM that I just ran then extracted but where under the Mandrake/KDE menu can I change to it?

Themes only work with KDE 3.3.1 or newer. So if you're using Mandrake 10.0 or later, and haven't updated your KDE Environment - then no you can't use themes.

For the next bit, why do you want to make your Linux look like Winblows XP. The point is to have other options and choices, not to get locked into what some other company wants - aka M$. Be creative and make your environment/theme resemble you and you're personality - not the enemy!

That's not true at all!

I'm playing with a Linux Mandrake 10.1 laptop running KDE 3.2, a desktop running 3.1 and another desktop running Mandrake 9.2 w/kde 3.2 and all use both Themes and Styles and have the theme widgets installed in the KDE control panel.


That said, what he really wants is Styles and Window Decorations, plus Backgrounds.

The three of these are what is involved in a theme... but using them seperately gives you far more flexibility. This is one reason that themes are not so prevalent, as the styles are more varied and useful.

Yes, you can manually go and change all the setting such as the widgets, icons, colours, window behaviour, etc...but there isn't a single "Theme Control" in anything below KDE 3.3.1

Hence my previous response. Manually changing everything manually and changing a "theme" are two different things. They may have the same result and outcome - but still different proccesses.

I should of worded it better, the whole thing of it was that I did not know that thier was theme;s avalaiable that I can load in my self....

Eh, no.

The initial installation of 3.1 and 3.2 both had the theme control panel, as had prior releases.

Some upgrades and applications tended to kick the theme module out of the KDE control center making it disappear, but it was there initially.

Liquid for one, kills the theme manager.
