KDE suffers with homes in a nfs directory

Hi all,

I have a redhat machine that provides /home via nfs and would prefer mandrake 9.2 on the client machines.

And there, I get obscur problems... If a user with homedir on the nfs served /home logs in, the desktop seems to be dead. No items to see, right-click opens no menu, whatever you set as background, nothing changes. The screensaver-control-window crashes, similar to some other programs.

For users, that have their homes on a local hdd, all works fine.

I created the users via webmin on the redhat machine AFTER I replaced the redhated /etc/skel with the /etc/skel from a mandrake machine.

Does anyone know, where the problem is to search?

If one of you user's does a command line login to a workstation are they able to write everywhere in their home directory? Including .kde ? You're using NIS (YP) or something similar to distrubute your's users from the server so the UIDs/GIDs all match yeah?

cheers

Jamie...

Hi Jamie,
yes, all users can write in their .kde directories. All /home directories are owned by user:usersgroup with access permissions 755.
UIDs/GIDs are provided by an LDAP server. All I see seems OK... :

in /home/sigrid:

<snip>

[sigrid@localhost sigrid]$ ll -a

(...)

-rw-r--r-- 1 sigrid DSA-Core 120 22. Dez 18:22 .gtkrc
drwxr-xr-x 3 sigrid DSA-Core 4096 23. Dez 21:01 .kde
drwx------ 2 sigrid DSA-Core 4096 23. Dez 14:25 tmp

(...)
