Does anyone know if there are any software programs compatible with Linux that would work in similar fashion as Kazaa works for a Windows based platform?
I used LimeWire until I came across Apollon which you can get at http://apollon.sourceforge.net/ . I like Apollon a lot more because you can search multiple networks (Kazaa, Gnutella, etc) at once thus getting more hits. There is also an RPM for Apollon located in contrib, as well as the files necessary for the OpenFT and FastTrack networks. I had to compile the Gnutella library myself and I had no issues during the compile or adding the files to Apollon.
try www.zeropaid.com for a list of P2P apps that work on Linux.
You may be able (MAY is the key word) to run Kazaa under WINE or CrossOver. I'd suggest CrossOver if you are a newbie or WINE if you know what you are doing. I was able to succesfully install and run WinMX(my fav P2P app) under CrossOver. CrossOver is at http://www.codeweavers.com
bongwater , you say you are using apollon in Mandrake. i'm having a
lot of trouble getting it to work. i didn't see the RPM you said was there, because I
didn't find the dir name 'contrib', which is most likely the problem. first thing i did is
go to the apollon web-site and download there 'all-in-one' .run file and ran it. it didn't
work because it couldn't find a C compiler on the system.
so i just tried downloading there binaries (gzip) and extracting it then just compiling
it myself. that, ofcourse, didn't work for the same reason. i checked with 'which gcc'
and sure enough, it wasn't there.
so then i tried downloading gcc 3.3.3 and it requires a compiler to compile it as well!
basically, im i just as big of an idiot as i think i am, or am is there something else
going on here. and in either case, help me please!

Perhaps the appropriate thing here would be to either contact him privately or start a new thread (that way everyone can try and help) so that this thread remains on topic (Rather than being hijacked, the original poster can get answers)
