if it detects it, um mount and burn
I do not see how a blank media can be mounted, can it?
sound like you need to run k3bsetup,
also try as root user to run k3b, you might have a burning group
and the main user not being part of it (so it is denied burning)

That sound strange
have you got 2 cd/dvd players?
If you have only one, it is likely to be /dev/hdc
I have tried to run it as root with no luck. I only have one drive. The strange thing is if mandriva need to install a package the cd drive open and copy the file with no problem. when i run k3b the cd make and model showed at the main window. That's means that it detect it. but when i tried to burn an mp3 or ISO the burn button doesn't work.
I had the same problem: Here what I did to fix it.
Start k3b. Under Settings>Configure k3b.
When the dialog box comes up setect Writing. Then the Advance tab.
Set the Manual writting buffer swicth at a minimum. I increased mine to 10Meg (I have a gig in my system)
Do an apply then ok.
Burning should work now. I've been able to burn DVD's that wouldn't burn under 2006.
Sorry courtrrb it didn't work, when i click on burn i get the message : K3B did not find a suitable writer. even it's showing right in k3b main screen it's like it's not even there. I even eject my cd k3b. i have read somewhere about a package called " k3b-mp3 " would i need to install that for mandriva 2006.
