JACK realtime capabilities

Mandrake 10.1: KDE 3.2.3 ;Kernel 2.6.8.1-12mdk

Have installed Jack from rpm's and using GUI to run get following errors

11:22:12.862 Statistics reset.
11:22:12.872 Could not open ALSA sequencer as a client. MIDI patchbay will be not available.
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:446snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory
11:22:16.841 Startup script...
11:22:16.841 artsshell -q terminate
11:22:17.183 Startup script terminated with exit status=256.
11:22:17.184 JACK is starting...
11:22:17.185 /usr/bin/jackstart -R -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p1024 -n2
11:22:17.215 JACK was started with PID=9328 (0x2470).
jackstart: cannot get realtime capabilities, current capabilities are:
=ep cap_setpcap-ep
probably running under a kernel with capabilities disabled,
a suitable kernel would have printed something like "=eip"
11:22:17.281 JACK was stopped with exit status=1.
11:22:19.436 Could not connect to JACK server as client.

Can anyone help with these 2 problems of enabling realtime capabilities in my kernel and for the ALSA sequencer problem - I assume they are related.

Thanks

Did you install off the Mandriva RPMs? You should as they were built for and tested on Mandriva.

Secondly have you started the server properly? http://jackit.sourceforge.net/docs/faq.php#q8

Realtime scheduling can be enabled http://jackit.sourceforge.net/docs/faq.php#q53 but I'd concentrate on getting Jackit working first before fiddling around w/ that (its not required to run the program but it seems to be highly recommended to get good results according to their FAQ).

I only ever install via urmpi and Mandake rpms as I wanted to avoid problems - doen't seem to work all the time tho !

I am the only user, apart from me as root, so the answer is yes, I did start the server properly !

What next, anybody ?
