Hi,

I finally managed to customise msec and have ping working on my local network. I am however unable to now ping any external address e.g. www.cisco.com from my Linux PC. When I run the command ping www.cisco.com it returns unknown host www.cisco.com. How do I overcome this?

emacs /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
ctrl-x,ctrl-s

that file is your DNS. You have none obviously. Put in your DNS or the IP of your router/gateway.

Not to worry. I figured it. Anyone who comes across this issue, please note to edit your /etc/resolv.conf file by adding the following line:

nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx #where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of your DNS Server e.g. ISP. Don't place your gateway IP address.

The /etc/resolv.conf is to help resolve forward IP requests e.g. www.cisco.com
