installing vgetty on Mandrake 10.1
I have a USB modem for connecting to my ISP, works great.
Also would like to get the ability to send and receive faxes and voice messages so I used urpmi to install the packages mgetty+sendfax and vgetty. (I try to do as I am told by all the guru's on the forum !)
All this has given me is a folder /etc/mgetty+sendfax containing some "sample configuration" files.
I have looked around and have been told that I need to change the etc/inittab and add a line to call up vgetty - or mgetty if I dont want voice - to point to my dial up modem on ttyS0.
Do I then have to create my own config file to configure the system to recognise the modem and send receive faxes ?
Isn't that the reason for using urpmi and rpms ? To take care of dependancies and make life easier for us idiots who have migrated recently from "the other place!"
Do I have to go back to tarballs ? Make and configure ?
Has anyone successfully installed mgetty/vgetty to do what I describe above on a Mandrake 10.1 system ? Kernel 2.6.8
The modem is a USR Sportster message plus on com1.
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.
Edit :- Is this question too difficult or too dumb ??
