installing Mandriva in Microsoft Virtual PC windows XP
Hi all, i am trying to install Mandriva in Pentium 4 motherboard with an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 8x AGP and the installation goes fine meaning that all the CD's are loaded fine but at the time to configure the graphical card i run into issues and is that the Video card is not detected and even when i select the right monitor model and the closest Video card that is in the Mandriva list it doesnt work when i test the configuration so i went ahead and tried to install the driver from NVIDIA.com and the installer which a .run file gives some error about not having a compatible kernel configuration interface so i don't know what else to do Please can someone help i am not an experience Linux user so i will need step by step instructions.
Mandriva 2006 is the distribution i was trying to install , now i tried with Red Hat 8.0 and it worked i just discovered that Microsoft Virtual PC fools the guest operating systems by supplying some generic drivers meaning that when linux distrubutions try to probe for the video card it detects as a S3 Trio 64 (generic) so i chose that set the right resolution for my monitor and the frequency for the horizontal and vertical and boom it worked i just have to say that i was lucky after trying so many times, and for now i am happy by having Red Hat working, now i just got dissappointed because with Virtual PC you don't get the full capability that belongs to the guest OS, like 3D graphics, dealing with the actual Hardware not the virtual ones supplied to the guest operating system, EX. i can't configure use a wireless network adapter in Linux within Virtual PC and i would like to use my wireless card since i may be doing so network programming in Linux and getting a cable from my kitchen to my room is not what i want that's the reason i have a wireless card.
