Installing automake, libtool and gcc on Mandrake 9.2

HI,
i'm installing successfully gcc-4.1.1, libtool-1.5.22 and and automake-1.4.7 but when i control the version with their --version option i obtain as result the old version present when i installed Mandrake 9.2 on my pc. I solved a similar problem with autoconf-2.60 adding his "bin" path in the PATH environment variable. What variable have i to change in order to allow my system to understand the last version i had installed of gcc, libtool and automake?
Thanks for your help.

P.S.: i tred adding their path in the PATH envirnment variable but it doesn't work.
