Making an attempt at installing version 10.1, and have the install process hang on me. Have used a magazine distro(DVD), 3CD distro, mini-iso distro. All do the same thing.
It stalls right after the language selection. I get the menu for installation and configuration on the left with a big empty white box on the right and the watch/timer. I beleive this is the point of the license agreement. Then it just stays at this point.
Ive tried changing the install parameters, text, vgalo, etc. still the same result.
CD's were burned at 8x so Im sure that isnt the problem. As far as the downloads MD5 checked good. Running an ASUS A7N8X Dlx, AMD 3200XP, ATI card, 1024 of Corsair RAM. M$ XP home.
Was wondering if this might by chance be a common issue with a work around or something that is known to interfear such as a peice of hardware or software.
Any consideration would be appreciated by this newbie. Thanks
Attemping the install on a clean new HD that I just put in. I did format it in ntfs, as I understand it Linux likes FAT32. But I was assuming that it would want to/ask to reformat as part of the install at some point. But at the point at which hangs on me, doesnt seem like it would be a consideration quite yet in the install process.
Your're right, you are asked about partitioning your drive. If you suspect the ntfs might be a problem reformat the drive to 32bit under windo$e, then try again.
Reformatted the hard drive to FAT32 and tried another install and still hung up at the same spot. So started reading a bit more and stumbled across a post saying disconnect all USB devices before trying to install.
Disconnected keyboard and Logitech joystick. Started to boot and of course stopped in bio boot saying no keyboard was detected. Plugged in keyboard, rebooted and install started and went smoothly.
So in conclusion it looks like the USB joystick was causing the problem with the install. Install went flawlessly when it was disconnected. Eeeerrrr ok well still trying to figure out how to connect to internet in Linux, but that will come with some research.
