i'll give you the simplest method to manipulate files with root powers. ok, some may argue it's not the purest method, but i like it fine...........
(this applies to KDE only. if you're running another DE, then let me know & we can go the CLI command route)
in terminal, as root, type........ kdesu konqueror (hit enter)
that will open konqueror file manager in superuser (root) mode & you can edit, add, alter, delete anything 'til your hearts content. you can also issue that same command from terminal as normal user & a pop up box will appear requiring the root password before konq opens.
