What did you try? What does dmesg say when you plug it in (i.e. run "dmesg" without quotes in a terminal)?

Are you saying dmesg gave no output whatsoever, or did you not run it? If the former, that's very odd. You need to open a terminal window (look for entries called "Terminal", "Konsole" or perhaps "xterm" in your menus), type "dmesg" without quotes at the prompt and press Enter. It should say something.

I don't know what you mean by "I tried by the tab 'edit' to create new links to hadrware disk".

As for writing to the disk, what file system is it formatted with?

Try editing /etc/fstab.conf in root
The entry should be something like this:

/dev/sda1 /mnt/lexar vfat rw 0 0

Then in a terminal, enter: sudo mount /mnt/lexar
with your flash drive plugged in

You'll need to create the mount point (i.e. /mnt/lexar) before trying to use it though. Also, if you haven't got sudo set up, then you'll have to use mount as root.

Hello
so i tried with what you told me but no result
i think Lexar isnt suitable with Linux because i looked for it on the lexar website but i found just Windows drivers!
alos when i wrote dmesg ,as you told me i got many lines telling me the proprieties and informations of my pc
and i found this as i think about my flash disk:
sda:write protect is off
sda:mode sense(dunno if i spell it right) 00 00 00 00
sda assuming drive cache: writing error on device

Dear Ricemark
when i did /etc/fstab.conf (root shell)it didnt know it as unknown command - ,,,,!

sorry this what i could copy s i couldnt get a copy from the root shell, despite i tried to save it on te windows partition but it didn't work!

so what do you think? Is Lexar just for Windows?
or i should to reinstall my linux?
sorry if i annoyed you!
thanks

You shouldn't really need a driver to access the device, other that the normal USB modules which will be loaded anyway. Are there any more lines from dmesg? There should be a few more at least.

Also, the file is /etc/fstab not /etc/fstab.conf and you don't simply type the file name at the prompt, you need to open it with a text editior, e.g.

# vi /etc/fstab.

Hi
yeah ,,when i typed dmesg ,there're many lines more than 20 lines!
and i didn't undrestand what you meant by 'you need to open it with a text editior, e.g.

# vi /etc/fstab.'
i tried with /etc/fstab and i got a message says : Denied permission!.

This is what dmesg shows me when I plug my pendrive in:

hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.7-2, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x930/0x6532) is not claimed by any active driver.

sda: Write Protect is off
sda: sda1
WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity not assured
USB Mass Storage device found at 2
USB Mass Storage support registered.

The bit in bold is the important bit, as it tells me what device I need to mount to be able to access the files on the drive.

fstab is a file that contains devices (not all), along with moint points, file systems and mount options. To edit it, you need to use a text editor and vi is an example of an editor. You don't have to use vi, you can use whatever you like. What does "ls -l /etc/fstab" show? Just want to check that the file actually has write permissions.

You run ls in a terminal, like you did for dmesg. What do you mean by "also about /etc/fstab and text editor ? wi didnt know how to do that and what i'd get after?"??

In any case, try mounting /dev/sda2, I think that'll be correct, given the line

The command is ls -l and those are both lowercase Ls, not Is. You also need a space between that and the file name.

What happened when you tried to mount /dev/sda2?

What kind of errors did you get during installation?

Also, no, I'm only going to reply to this thread. The point of the forum is that anyone can look for help, so if I help you via email or MSN then someone with the same problem won't be able to see the solution (if there is one).
