Ethernet detection failed!

I have a laptop with an 10/100 ethernet port.
After the installation of Madrake 10.1, at the begging where the system checkup takes place, when it arrives at the detection of the ethernet port, "Bridging up eth0", it stops for several seconds, and then it prompts "Failed".
What is this all about?

Oh, I forgot to mention that this happens although in the file
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, in the variable ONBOOT I have inserted "yes"
