drakconnect won't save settings in mandrake 10.0

Hello, everyone!

I actually have two problems, both networking related.

The first one is that the drakconnect wizard although given correct settings doesn't registrate them well or something. All works fine, no errors, warnings or whatever but at the end when it sais the network needs to be restarted on the console I get something like:
Code:
bringing up eth0 ........ [FAILED]
. And of course, afterwords it gets me angry by "congratualating me". Huh!

Ifconfig reports that no ip is assigned to eth1 (although drakconf should have set it 30 seconds earlier...).

But after that, I su to root and
Code:
#ifconfig eth1 bla bla up
#add default gw bla bla
and it works perfectly. But of course I want the settings to be permanent, not repeated every reboot.

It is pretty obvious to me that drakconnect doesn't get the job done. Can I fix this? Or on the other hand, what files should I modify for the settings to be remembered? (In case I cant'f fix drakconnect.) Anyone else got this bug? I also had it in 9.2... couldn''t solve it though..

The second problem is that I can't share Internet. Those wizards really aren't such masterpieces I run that Share Internet thing but the other computer although gets automatic ip can't ping anything but me. Ok, this may have nothing to do with the wizards... Oh! and the share connection wizard sais I should modify manually the firewall settings. They may not be accurate it says...

hi..........

unfortunately, i don't have an answer for you at the moment. but, i'm having the exact same problem. see This Thread i started. nobody has come up with a solution as of yet, but i'm (sorta) glad i'm not the only to run into this problem. that tells me it's not something i did, but it's some kind of MDK bug.

did you do a clean install, or an upgrade? i went the upgrade route (from 9.2 to 10.0). everything else works fine for me, except for this one problem. i've succesfully upgraded each version of MDK from 9.0 through current without any problems.

i'll keep an eye on your thread & you should keep an eye on mine. if i come up with a solution, i'll let you know. could you do the same for me?

here's one possible thing i'm going to look into tonight. do you have a working install of an earlier Mandrake? my guess is there's a config or script file corrupted somewhere in the /etc. directory. most likely /etc/ppp or /ect/sysconfig somewhere. what i'm gonna do tonight is compare various config & script files from my 9.2 install to the 10.0 install, in hopes of stumbling across something obvious. maybe you could do the same & between us we can squash this bug?

if i figure something out, you'll be the second to know.

No, it didn't work for me. But at least one of us made it through!

No, it was not an upgrade, but a clean install. As I said before, I had this very problem in 9.2 also, but, just like you, I played around a little and the problem was AUTOMAGICALLY solved. Have no ideea what I've done. And now, I have this problem again. I thought Mandrake guys fixed this... Seems not. And another thing: I experience all sort of crashes: kdevelop, evolution etc... Kinda bugy this Mandrake 10.0 don't you think?

I thank you for letting me know what you did... You know what I'd like? I'd like to have a post from someone who DIDN'T have this problem. I mean, drakconf really works on some systems except ours? Hm...
