Was the DVD drive
Sorry to hear that.
Anyway coming back to mandy 2005 LE: it is much better and more stable
than 10.1, for example it handles usb pen drive nicely.
Do not even bother with 10.1 (which is OK, I run 1 PC on it) unless
you are desperate to install something now!(R)

Yes, I find it fasinating that distance is not a barrier to comminicating in these forums.
I'm setting up a rendering cluster to encode AVI to MPEG2? (DVD compiant) and have settled on Oscar (at this point I'm still an out of the box UNIX person.) as the cluster manager and it requires, amoung others, 10.1 (10,0 had a problem with Open SSH).
I have limited experience with Mandrake . . sorry, Mandriva/Samba. Though, If you, or anyone else, have a better solution, I'm certianly willing to learn something new. Maybe I should say, ask more question here

Have heard good thing about oscar. Probably a good first port of call indeed.
Otherwise parallel Knoppix, and some other I cannot think of their names

to MPEG2?
mpeg2 correct. You will find out that it takes a little bit more
about making mpeg2 dvd compliant (something about padding?)
Anyway not all mpeg2 are equal, just 1 tweak sometimes needed
