Default Working Directory

Hi,

I'm new to using Mandriva (currently using Mandriva 2007), and there is one thing that really bugs me:

Whenever I start gnome-terminal or xterm, it opens up $HOME/Desktop instead of just $HOME. I want to change that. I can do this by using:

Code:
gnome-terminal --working-directory=$HOME
But is there any way that I can just set it so that whenever I open gnome-terminal, it opens $HOME by default?

Thanks!

To really do this the right way, you need to read the man page for your shell to find out what files are executed, in what order, when your shell starts up. Then go through that chain, and find the place that sets the current working directory, and fix it. A fast hack, assuming your shell is bash, would be to put a line something like
Code:
cd $HOME
near the end of your personal .bashrc file.

Thanks for the reply. That work-around is better than the one I've been doing. I have neither passion nor time to go through the cycle to see where Mandriva made the working directory to $HOME/Desktop. I've looked /etc/bashrc, /etc/profile.d/*.sh and in the home directory for any sign of this happening, but I found none.

I assume this is default setting for Mandriva 2007 because I have not touched the system configuration since I installed it.

Anyway, problem solved. Thanks!
