Computer Bottlenecks

I have a descent computer (AMD Athlon 2400, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, etc). I would like to see how I can speed up my computer. Are there any linux utilities out there which can tell me my computer specs (RAM speed, bus speed, etc) and show where some bottlenecks might be?

What do you use it for?
Any results/money spent will be wrong with out asking yourself that first.
Proc speed : good (c+) (if real 2400), ok (d+) (if pr 2400+)
ram: ok (c-)
hdd: small, but that doesn't matter, 'till its 3/4 or more full.
3d card???
