Cant get 1024x768 with Depth 16 or 24

Hi,

I have just installed Mandrake 10.1. During the installation the setup defaulted the the depth as 16 and resolution as 800x600. But when I reboot the system my GUI didn't start. then I have loged in as root and modified the default depth to '8' in XF86Config file. Now I could log in with GUI. I could even change the resolution to 1024x768. it works fine with depth 8. But if I change the depth to 16 the Xserver crashes. I am using Samsung Samtron 55v monitor. And according to the manual the Hsync and low sysnc were 30-61 and 50-120 respectively. And the manual clearly says it can support 1024x768 resolution at 60 (87 interlace) refresh rate. I got this info from the monitor manual. And the driver was VESA.

In fact I have tried about 6 dostros to get the 1024x768 resolution with any depth. none of them worked. only mandrake could give the 1024x768 resolution atleast with depth 8. I know there is some thing wrong with my XF86Config file. Please some one give me solution. I am desperate to switch to Linux.

My XF86Config file is as follows:
