Cant connect to internet on Mandrake past 9.0 distro

I had belonged to the mandrake club both by subscription and when buying a Powerpack and kppp would let me configure a USR 5610 modem easily. later versions I downloaded or ordered that were non powerpack simply wouldn't let me configure the modem.I dropped out of the club and didn't purchase any further distro's because of that. My question is does only the powerpacks have KPPP that can configure ttys4. If they do I wouldn't mind buying one. I would appreciate help in answering this.

hi therer

kppp is available for free and easily configurable
i think it the modem driver that is the problem, u might not be having proper support for ur modem
some modem drivers which are not for free are included in the powerpack edition

regards

I'm thinking if I remember right that Mandrake 10.0 doesn't even install KPPP which means I have to learn how to install it. I cant imagine why it was left out when it worked fine in older versions. Does anyone know if it is installed in the powerpack or does it also have to be installed there? I never had a big desire to learn command line for linux allthough I'll have to eventually as microsoft has introduced hardward Identification that makes it unacceptable to me. Thanks to the pirates the rest of us have to pay. When my Starband sattelite connection agreement runs out in about a year and a half, and it doesn't support linux, iwant to be moved completely away from windows if I can find a way to do the things I want to do with linux. Anything one wants to do is easy with windows and I loved it but I just cant continue to use it if I cant reinstall when I want to. I think it a good Idea if Mandrake tried to make distros simple to connect by modem as one is more inclined to bear with learning how to do other things if they can at least use the internet first.
