I am a windows guy for 8 problematic years and i have decided to migrate to Mandrake Linux 9.0 since Nov 5 to try new things. To make story short, i am DUMB when it comes to Linux.

When i try to insert an audio CD, the cd player that came with the package(VINE i guess) seems to animate well though i dont receive any error messages but i cant hear any music from my speakers at all. When i try to play .wav files, it plays well.

I tried putting back my other hard drive that has a windows xp in it and all music files played well.

ANy suggestions guys? ANy help is highly appreciated.

I had a similar problem but it was because I switched to udev. Don't know if this will work for you but try

Do you have 2 CD-ROM drives? Are you audio cables from the CD-ROM plugged into your sound card? Windows uses Digital Audio Extraction, however, Linux does not have this feature so you actually need a physical audio cable plugged into your sound card inside your computer. If you do have 2 CD-ROM drives, make sure you try the other one.

Try using kscd to play your audio CD's. also, go to your volume mixer and make sure things aren't muted. you can use kmix, or aumix, or aslamixer.
