can I delete these files? & misc.
I might be feeling pretty proud of myself, having managed certain stuff, but I can't figure some of these things out:
Setup:
2 hdd, with win xp/mce on sata drive, & Mandriva 2006 Powerpack 64 on 2nd ide drive, booting to ide thru bios, with grub on ide's mbr. Yes, I successfully 'fooled windows' to thinking it was on the first drive: it does boot from grub, right into the ntldr's 2 choices (2 for now; will be more later). I like the idea of being able to boot all OS's from either drive.
The problem is that I, at one point, configured a large ntfs partition on the sata (WinMedia/sda6) as a storage drive in KDE's control center, and now it has all sorts of linux files on it. I've now fixed that so only the ide/linux partitions are used for storage, but the problem with what to do about the linux files on the sda6 remains.
Do I simply delete them? or move them to a linux partition? I'm paritculary conflused about dll and tmp files, as I believe dll's are only for windows, but the tmp extension is for both OS's, and it's safe to delete win temp files...I'm pretty confident that only these directories should be there: top 3 (look like windows registry entries), Control Centre2 (belongs to my brother mfc210C), System Volume Information, Downloads, Films, My Music, MS Office Update, Recycler, and Recorded TV.
I'm also nervous about deleting files cause this is still a fairly new installation, kde keeps crashing on me, I can't print yet (everything seems fine with brother's linux drivers, cups, etc.), and I haven't backed it up yet cause I don't like the backup packages the distro is offering me. I love my Acronis TrueImage for windows, and supposedly it works for linux too, but...
Some explanation about these file type extensions below would really help, as well as an answer to the delete/move question. I'll hunt for answers to the cups/backup questions before asking for help on those here...
