I also installed Ubuntu
Now hen i start Ubuntu it does the whole checklist
It seems to freeze on the following function

Starting Hotplug Subsystem

Could that be it?

I have a wireless mouse and keyboard installed
and a seperate usb 1394 adapter up front (which is unplugged)

Try this. As soon as you see the lilo boot selection screen hit the Esc key. That will take you to a boot prompt at which you should type:

linux noapic nolapic acpi=off

These are the most common boot parameters to pass when you are having trouble booting.

Another thing to check is your bios setup. Make sure that you have Plug & Play disabled. It can cause a lot of problems in linux at times.

Task B is using a Live CD to fix booting problem of an unbootable Linux.

Just booting tips

If you still have a problem, use Live CD to mount the Mandriva partition (all described in the link) and post Mandriva's

(1) /boot/grub/menu.lst
(2) do a "fdisk -l" in Live CD and post the partitioning details here

Yeah, Mandriva defaults to lilo, Ubuntu defaults to grub.

But the Live-CD no longer works? Something is *definitely* wrong, here!

Am now trying everything again in vmware

Everything works smoothly

I've seen hotplug come by at least 20 times
Live cd works as well in vmware

I'm at a complete total loss
