Bad video quality with Mandriva 2007 on FSC Amilo M7440G, Intel 915GM
I've installed Mandriva 2007 DVD on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M7440G. Everything works fine, except, bluetooth (USB) and movieplayers - xine, kmplayer, totem etc. With USB bluetooth the problem was - I couldn't establish internet connection over GPRS with Nokia 6230i. Message - something about cellular settings and error in perl module, line 97. It's possible just send files from laptop to phone. Have some ideas?
Problem with video - I've installed all the possible staff for video - 915 resolution, all players, divx 6.11 etc. I don't know - where is the problem. Low quality of video anyway. Some avi movies are so light, that its impossible to watch them.
Thanks 4 answer!
In KMPlayer settings i found to configure Output plugins - I've set X11 not Auto and picture now is much better but there are still some files recorded on camera, extension AVI, are not playeble. Also files recorded by camera are not in best quality. Movies now are in good quality. Maybe I just must learn to configure KMPlayer?
Thanks!

extension AVI, are not playeble
often a question of missing codecs
do you get an error message?
did you try in a console
mplayer nameoffile.avi
I use mplayer all the time, can play almost anything
So can vlc... if you want to try yet another player
install mplayer from the plf website,
that is google for urpmi and zarb
configure urmpi sources to include plf
then
urpmi mplayer
if not clear, search forum plenty of similar posts
Hi! thanks for the answer!
Well, I tried to run mplayer from konsole earlier, but there is no action. Nothing happens. It doesn't open. Now I tried to run it with the file name.avi - the same. I tried also to reinstall, but nothing. I got better quality for videos (in kplayer - uses mplayer) that earlier were in very light colors by configuring settings (not auto output plugin detection but x11), but the video that I can't play is in very hi bitrate - 3min video about 680MB. Maybe some player settings?
Im not a specialist in Linux, 4 years ago i tried RedHat6 and last year Mandriva 2006. Now I replaced WinXP by Mandriva 2007 (and I will never put back Win in my Laptop - Linux da Best). I have several questions - mplayer is not the same kmplayer? Or mplayer = movie player - totem? About codecs - i've installed divx 6.11, copied it to kmplayer, xine. Xine can't find it.
Everything is OK now. Thanks. Mplayer runs and without problem. I just don't know what to do with bluetooth connection. Perl module line 97 "load cellular settings" error. I can send files to Nokia, but cant receive any files, and Internet connection via bluetooth from Nokia impossible to establish.
In free DVD there was no GUI for MPayer inside. I've installed it from free CD and movies are running. Except couple videos recorded on cam with high bitrate, but with extention .avi. But that's OK

Nothing here I can compare to.
As I said before install the repositories for plf
(google urpmi + zarb, or look at sticky on forum)
and install the plf version of mplayer
with urpmi you can install the gui for mplayer which is called gmplayer, and w32codecs
if mplayer does not play those nothing will (still try VLC)
mencoder can be used to re-encode to a lower bitrate, that might work as well
