Ati drivers dont work

I downloaded the ati drivers from ATIS website and then installed them by building the Mandriva 2007 and then installed the RPMS. And when i reboot KDE never shows up once Mandriva has loaded. Why?

What card do you have? What is the exact procedure you followed? I have an X1600 256mb card PCIE and it works for me with the proprietry drivers from the ATI website on Mdv 2007.

You have to give us more to go on than that. I am not picking on you, but do you mean rebulding the kernel? What specific RPMS, did you follow the install instructions to the letter? What happens when you boot up, does KDE keep looping? Does the computer not boot at all now, where does it hang up? The more specific and more detailed you can be, the better someone can suggest something.

As someone already posted, ATI dropped support for 9xxx chips starting fromt the 8.29.6 release. You need to use the open source driver.

man rpm will help you
look at option for removing the package then install again
or option force to force the install

Anyhow, why don't you try the open source? drakx11 away

it is part of the distro. Nothing to do apart
from running as root (su command in a terminal)
drakx11 and choosing "radeon" as opposed to fglrx which is ati
