Sorry, but I did as you told me, but it told me that I could not force the installation. I tried a few different things but I got the exact same error as before. Can someone please help me with this. Is there anyone with a Mandrake box that got the correct drivers for their ATI 9600 pro to work???????????????

You are my hero!
I got the driver installed. It gave me an error saying that I needed to have a custom compiled kernel, and I had tried to install the kernel but for some reason it would not let me. I ran the config thing that it told me to for the video card driver and I was able to set it up. It looks so much better now that it has all the colors and the resolution is better.

check and make sure it is working,

fglrxinfo

it should say using radeon drivers, if it says mesa you still have some configureing to do.

If it says radeon i think you lucked out and that would be the easiest setup of a radeon card I have ever seen.

I will have to check that. All I know is that I get the resolution and the colors that I want from it. It went through the whole ATI install process and then it restarted X and KDE. I checked in HardDrake and it said the Driver was Custom. It seems to have worked. I am happy with the outcome at least.

I had exactly the same problem. Here is how i solved it step by step

1. rpm -ivh --force fglrx***.rpm (download the rpm from www.ati.com )

2. install your kernel sources (if you have your default kernel on mandrake 9.2 that should be 2.4.22-10mdk , if you don't have them on your distro cd's try a google search 2 download them )

3. cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod

4. run make sh ( that is " ./make.sh " )

5. cd ..

6. run make_install.sh ( " ./make_install.sh" )

7. run fglrxconfig to set up your settings and make sure to say yes when it ask you if you want an agp gart module (that way you'll have 3d accelaration )

8. restart the server

9.Voila!(Hope thats spelled right!)

10. to check your 3d settings open a console and run glxgears (that should display 2 gears running ) I have a p4 2,4ghz (overcloacked @ 3.06 ghz(!!!)) 512 mb ram and ati radeon 9600 ro and i get round 4800 FPS

11. Good luck!!
