Anyone toggle between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels much?

I'm asking if anyone knows what to enable/disable and/or change about their system's configuration when switching kernels. I've recently installed Mdk10.1OE and think I'm gunna try using the 2.4 kernel to ease problems with cd burning and modem drivers. I know when I switch any kernel I have to mess with nVidia but that's a few seconds of recompiling. I'm more concerned about the new things like udev, messagebus service, ide-scsi emulation options in fstab, mouse device naming changes, usb&hotplug, etc.
If anyone has any hints or tips about frequently changing between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels and maintaining a fully usable system, they'd be appreciated.

I've done a little of this on a friends box. (Mandrake 10 Official) The only real issue that came up was the mouse driver which is different in the 2.4 kernel to the 2.6 kernel. As long as you don't forget to run the "hardware change detected" thing that appears during boot then all should be ok - if you forget you end up with a dead mouse.
I don't remember seeing any other changes needing to be made.

Yeah that's what I remember from 10.0 but now there's this new udev and messagebus stuff I was wondering if it'd confuse programs or run redundant stuff. Seemed to be ok when I was messing a few days ago. I'll have time to actually switch it to 2.4 and try burning after work.

Well FYI udev states it's for 2.6 kernels and doesnt start under 2.4.

ALSA was being a pain with 2.4 so I'm back with 2.6. Got nVidia working, sound's not hissing anymore, cd burning takes about 8mins to read and 2mins to burn which is acceptable. Finally got a working LAMP system too.

Nuts to Sagem F@ST 800 and Thomson/Alcatel Speedtouch 330 modem drivers with 2.6 atm. Now to install Java 5.
