10.0 upgrade to 2005
Hi There - wonder if I can upgrade from 10.0 straight to 2005, or will I have to upgrade to 10.1 first - then 2005. Hope it's not too much of a silly question, rather ask than to do it the wrong way. Thanks for reading this.

Well, you *can* upgrade to 2005 directly. But there were significant changes (e.g., XFree86 --> xorg) in 10.1, that you will have to handle, whichever way you do it.
Make sure everything is backed up, and give it a shot. If worse comes to worst, you can always either reinstall 10.0, and restore your backup, or just do a full, clean install of 2005.
Edit: I just want to be clear that there is absolutely no reason to go the 10.0 --> 10.1 --> 2005 route. If you are going to install 2005, go there directly.

Many thanks for coming back so quickly to my question and thank your for the info on the upgrade. The reason I asked the original question was because I did upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1 and had a few problems that I was not able to solve with that upgrade. More my lack of knowledge than anything else. Do you think that if I upgrade to 10.1 and not be to worried about the things that did not work for me, then upgrade straight away to 2005, it would work ok for me. Thanks again for your input and please excuse my ignorance on this.

Well, As I indicated in my edit in my original post, I wouldn't bother going to 10.1 first. The problems that *I* am aware of in upgrading to 10.1 will also be there when upgrading to 2005. While you *can* upgrade to 10.1 first, I see no reason to add the extra step. If you upgrade from 10.0 to 2005, you will have to handle changes like XFree86 --> xorg, and devfs --> udev. If you upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1, will have to handle changes like XFree86 --> xorg, and devfs --> udev, and then upgrade to 2005.

Thanks again for your input most appreciated. Sorry I did not read your first post properly as you did explain all then. On reflection think I will just do a fresh install of 2005 and see how good it is then. Thank you again for your time and attention. Good Luck.
