10.0 - laptop wlan card doesn't show up

Hi,

I've got a Sony VAIO GRT270P. It has an integrated PCI wireless card, a Lan Express 802.11b/g that other Linux users say they have got working with the Orinico drivers. It's switched on, it works under Windows, but no wlan card shows up under ifconfig.

I briefly had 9.1 installed a while ago, and the card did show up in ifconfig then. Surprisingly, 10.0's HardDrake does see a wireless card, although it thinks it's an Atheros, and it refuses to bind any driver module to it.

My solution was to switch to SuSE. But WPA encryption still doesn't work. I am thinking about buying a well-supported PCMCIA card instead.

I made it work on my laptop. Currently I'm using Mandriva Linux LE 2005 edition. I'm new to Linux but first I updated the system with normal error corrections. Second I reinstalled the driver and this time it worked. Beside this I also enabled the Hotplugging feature both in the system and on the wlan since it makes it start quicker.

My only unsolved issue in this matter is that I have to start the network myself everytime I want to use it. And sometime it disconnects by it self but it work =)

QPQ --

Glad to hear of your success. My card is fully functional too now, under Gentoo Linux of all things. I am using madwifi for the driver, and wpa_supplicant for key management. But I too must start the interface manually every time I want to use it.

-ks
