How to get the old Network Manager back.

Well... I recently switched to Mageia and am very happy with it (Ill change my sig one of these days :P ) but there is one issue: The "Network Center" thingamabob that Mageia uses isnt as... Well... I know how to use the Network Manager better; lets leave it at that. So, how do I get to that Network Manager that almost every other distro uses?

The front end of Network Manager is nice; the internals are not so nice, and the compiling of it is troublesome in the extreme. Further, it only works with X running.

If your distro hasn't got it and you want it anyhow, download it from somebody else's distro, and try setting it up. It's part of gnome

Like he said, but also done with kde.

The gui is just a handler for the *.conf files.

Simmillarly, old files may be renamed filename.tla~
These can be read with any text editor.

Most times permissions or a double switch somewhere can undo all the good work.

If you experiment, like me, take notes (please).

I have a list of files worth backing up when they work.

If you want I can post it here.

Cheers, Glenn
