I've not figured out how to enable a wired connection in Mageia 5.
I remember during the installation that it asked me to choose wired or wireless, I chose wireless thinking that would be the better choice. And it is for most uses, but I'd like to have the ability to connect directly to my router. With a cord.
MCC hardware configuration only recognizes wireless (which is, btw, Atheros AR9285), so the handy "set up a new network interface" wizard does not work.
"No device can be found for this connection type"
I didn't have this problem on a previous installation on another computer. This has me baffled. Not like that's hard.
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm sure this is something relatively simple that I've just overlooked somewhere.
Try the command lspci (list pci devices) in a terminal. It should report what wired adapter you have, then post the relevant output here, being sure to surround it with "Code" tags which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "compose post" window.
I have a Mageia box, but it's used a wired adapter from the git-go, so I haven't had to deal with this issue directly. But, if it can be fixed, we'll help you fix it.
I also have a friend who's been using Mandrake and now Mageia for years. You can find him at my LUG's forums (registration required).
