Why is captcha offered by google for LQ registration?
Hello everyone. I have recently registered onto the forum and had a hard time doing it.
I use Noscript addon on firefox browser.
So I enabled all LQ related sites when registering with this forum. But I 'forbid' all google related sites because I thought they weren't relevant.
However, registration would not complete because a captcha wasn't appearing to prove I wasn't a robot.
So after enabling about 4 google sites on NoScript, a captcha eventually appeared which I completed for the LQ registration.
Registration was then successful.
I would like to know why LQ depends on a google service before registering members.
Secondly, the google captcha appears on the same page where I've entered 1. my username, 2. my password and 3. my personal legit email address.
I might as well give google my phone number, home address and passport number!
How do I know google hasn't taken a record of the above sensitive data?
Also, is LQ committed (under the Patriot Act, for example) to allow google to 'check your papers' before registering?
