Cool!

I guess I will help Mandrake out then. They are really hurting for cash.

Thanks

Also wanted to add. Participation is starting to pick up. In the case of a tie, time will be the deciding factor (ie. first == good).

Guys, is the following email legit?? I've been trying to help people out here, but I am sure there are many others, such as the moderators, who've answered way more questions than I have! And this is the first I've heard about 'winning' anything.
Anyway, here's a message I got from 'afferoman' in my email box:
Quote:
This is a message from afferoman at LinuxQuestions.org Forums - where Linux newbies come for help (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/index.php ). The LinuxQuestions.org Forums - where Linux newbies come for help owners cannot accept any responsibility for the contents of the email.
This is the message:
Hi, Records indicate that you were a winner in the LQ weekly contest for week ending 12/14/02 but have not yet chosen your prize. Please send your prize selection to winner@linuxquestions.org.
Thanks.
Before I start pondering choices... is this legit? And if so, what do you recommend I grab?!?
Thanks!

Yea, we won. You were the top patron and I was the top volunteer.

Amazing what one click on the affero button can do.

Heh, you're not kidding... I bet half of your posts were in response to my questions! I did 'affero' you by the way!

BTW, back to my original question: surely some of the mods had more posts, of any type, than I? Or does that illustrate the distinction between 'patron' and 'volunteer': are the moderators considered volunteers, who help us lowly 'patrons'?

There is a patron and a volunteer, the patron is the one who clicks the affero button of the person who then becomes the volunteer.

So any member can be a volunteer, if someone clicks on their affero button and submits a contribution or comments.

Any member can also be a patron.

I think we got lucky, we won with a single submission. It was a slow week.

You know, since I won, I've been doing alot more affero-ing. I don't know, I guess it just helped me to realize that it's there.. wierd.

Drake, woohoo! Is there a list of prizes awarded? I wanna know how many people have chosen Mandy as their prize? So far I think it's David, deesto and me, but I am wondering if there are more. Maybe a nameless list for anonymosity (spelling?).

Cool

From what Jeremy has said, the available prizes are box sets of Mandy or Red Hat, or an autographed copy of "Free Software, Free Society: Selected Essays of Richard M. Stallman".
BTW, when I wrote to verify whether the RH8 was the personal version, they told me they had a copy of Professional available! I was very, very tempted, but with all the screwy things going on in RH8, I turned it down. Besides, I feel more loyal to Mandrake somehow... even if I'm using Slackware!
