I'm not concerned with "not adequately solved." What I'm concerned with is the situation where none of the answers result in a "true solution" or "true resolution" of the issue on my workstation(s).
For example, consider that I have a cardbus device that I'm trying to get working on a laptop. When installed, all sorts of things happen in /var/log/syslog, but the device is never recognized and never becomes useful. Several web articles report that the device works in situations similar to mine. After an original posting and numerous replies and attempts to change drivers, enable options, update packages and so on, I still cannot get the device to work. Eventually, I must seek some alternative hardware for my intended application. Thus I "abandon" my efforts to get this cardbus device working.
