Viewing many forums at once

Is there some way to see threads from several forums at once?

For instance, I am interested in topics in Slackware, Linux - Software and Programming forums (among others) and to view all new threads on those forums I need to open three separate pages. Instead, I'd want to be able to view topics from all those forums an a single site.

I've tried using search, but that unfortunately requires a search term to be specified.

It's not a documented feature, but you can manually append "&forumid[]=$forumid,$forumid,$forumid to the "View New Post" URL to get new posts only from the fora specified in the comma delimited list.

Hmm, this does not really work for me, ie:

• &forumid=14 – gives me Slackware
• &forumid[]=14 – gives me Linux - General (which is id 1)
• &forumid=2,14 – gives me Linux Software (which makes sense since parsing “2,14” as an integer gives 2)
• &forumid[]=2,14 – gives me Linux – General
• &forumid=2&forumid=14 – gives me Slackware (which makes sense since the last value prevails)
• &forumid[]=2&forumid[]=14 – gives me Linux - General

I've also tried with forumchoice instead of forumid since that's the name of the field on the search page, but this was completely ignored.

So it looks that in “getnew” mode, the search script ignores forumchoice and reads only forumid but does not interpret it as an array (and the array somehow gets converted to an integer 1).

I can confirm your findings and will have to look into it further. In the interim, you can at least browse in this manner via RSS, which I have confirmed is still working as expected:

Try opening each forum that you want to view in a tabbed browsing format. You can also try to open several windows of your browser, viewing a separate forum in each window. This is what I do if I want to view several forums at once.

You might want to consider this linux web browser: SlimBoat Web Browser (get it from slimboat.com). It has a group feature which allow you to define a few web pages as a group. After it's defined, you can click the group to open all the web pages in one shot. You can even configure the browser to open the group at startup.

I already have too many tabs opened. Adding a bunch of new ones is really not an option for me.

This is the same problem as before – I have too many tabs open already. Also, I'm not really considering trying out a closed source browser (I know I'm using one right now, but if I were to switch, it'd be to free software).
