This is not a systemic issue that needs policy changes. The very few individuals responsible for the “moratorium” (permanent ban) on COVID threads were the same ones that necessitated the “moratorium” on “political” threads. Actions to address problems that continue to be caused by those accounts should be applied only to those accounts.

There have been repeat offenders, in the General forum, who have been given bans where they no longer can post in the General forum.

I don't see a bunch of reports on those threads about improper dialogue, fighting, or any other activities. Instead the OP here cited that there were multiple active threads at the time, and there was an older one, and suggested that they be merged into a megathread like the religion, or the Windows v Linux ones.

Jeremy seems to have considered this thread the equivalent of a report and acted upon it, I can also only guess that he may have reviewed at the discussion flow in those threads and decided to have a moratorium on the topic for now. He cited his ultimate reasoning, which was misinformation and bickering.

Per syg00's point, I do not always read those threads, or stay up to speed with them as they get many new posts. I do however see new reports, as do moderators who view the reported posts list. As I say, insofar as reports on those threads, they were fairly silent.

I guess there's a question if there is some sub-group of persons who always post to threads like that and always bicker, but they accept each other's personalities.

Who determines what misinformation is? Is it forum mods who disagree with another opinion? That's not misinformation.

If taking something that has not been even close to being thoroughly tested is sensible, I'd much rather be nonsensible. It's also not a vaccine by the true definition of a vaccine. Do the research yourself.

Now that the covid topic is entirely shut down, mods don't have to make that determination at all.

Not sure why watchingu wants this thread to be locked too.
