Programming Sub-forums

I think it would be cool to have sub-forums for the Programming forum for each language.

For Example:
Programming
|-C, C++, C#
|-Python
|-PHP
|-Perl
|-Java
|-SQL
|-Scripting (Bash, Ksh, Csh)

I just think from an end user perspective it would be easier to find a proper place to go to ask a question.

At this time I don't think there's enough traffic to justify individual programming subforums. If that changes, we'll certainly revisit the topic. Thanks for the feedback.

well think of it the other way, maybe its because there aren't such categories, so nobody wants to post? If there are such subforums, i am sure the traffic will come. an example of programming subforum is devshed

Not sure individual ones would be good, but they could be grouped by use (e.g. PHP, Perl and SQL)

I think the C and C-based ones would be useful. A fair amount of projects seem to be using it of late, so why not give them their own section? It might not get much traffic, but if people who are starting projects use them to announce it, explain it, and ask if anyone wants to get involved and help out, then I think it'd pick up pretty quick.

Maybe not enough traffic because...

I might agree that there may not be enough traffic precisely because it isn't specific enough. As a programmer, it is not useful to me to have just a general programming forum. What function would that serve a programmer? Just to hang out with other programmers? I might suggest the original question that was asked was a good one. If there were specific forums for PHP, Perl, C++, and maybe one for MySQL, it would generate traffic all by itself.

Of course, then again, I could be wrong.

Just wanted to toss my two cents in, Jeremy.

Many forums hive off popular subjects into a sub forum to make the main less crowded, though I've seen places where sub forums are created before the traffic and it makes them too quiet.

Maybe subjects could be prefixed with a programming tag e.g. [C++]. You could even have a filter option at the top of the forum. That was all programming stuff remain in one forum, but people are able to just look for subjects on their preferred language. Then, if one seems popular it could be hived off to a sub forum.

I would like to suggest that even if not for any other language but scripting deserves another forum.
Just see in programming section, more than 65% questions are from scripting languages !

I really like the idea of automatically adding a language tag to the beginning of threads- though a good thread title should be something like "php question: blah blah" or "java question: blah" what I like about the idea is the ability to sort the questions into topic, so you could choose to sort the forum by language, (and then by recency) not just the traditional "newest to the top" forum layout.
