Well, i was thinking if LQ still has some bandwidth to spare for its members so they can have their own home page? Say www.linuxquestioins.org/born4linux/ with about two or three html-based web pages?
Of course, all the pages should be contain only text and no images.
yeah, i know that there are other sites offering more space (i.e. i have a brinkster.com account) but personllay, i like to stick wiithin the LQ domain.

one would also need to consider space AND the hassle of maintaing such a number of directories... I think that there are sites that specialize in this, so why not use those?

as i have mentioned in my origiinal post, i'd like to keep LQ users within the LQ domain.
well, if LQ maintainers don't want/like it..then so be it. 'got no issues with it...
I don't believe letting users have their own homepage is feasible at this time.
First, yes having 20,000 + members and only anticipating more will require more space for anyone who does sign up for one or want one. We should focus on the site content, not letting users have text based websites in which there are many free sites already out there.
Second, Jeremy is the sole admin who's tasks on running this site are solely done by him. Managing members homepages (content that might be illegal, offensive, etc) would only keep him from doing other administration tasks and duties he already has planned for this site.
There is alot to come to this site, I think letting users have their own homepages just isn't a concern right now. Already the LQ free email is outsourced, so I would say nope, members homepages isn't gonna happen anytime soon or most likely ever at this time.

I do like the idea of users being able to create there own little space. This is the direction I am taking your profile area. You can add bookmarks and other things now. How else would you like to be able to customize it. If we get it to a point that people start using it I would have no problems directing www.linuxquestions.org/~jeremy to http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...tinfo&userid=1
