I have noticed that occassionally the search facility on this site is soooooo slow or times out. Could this be a result of heavy usage or could it be a problem that can be fixed.

Performing a search on a site this big will be rather slower than normal. I always try to narrow down my search to speed it up.

U are probably right, I may have been doing searches whilst the site is busy. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn't just me coz it's happened quite a few times.

The search server has been getting bogged down as of late. I'll work on getting more machines to run with, but it will likely take a little while. In the meantime, it really helps if you use as many search terms as possible. Searching for "samba" or "kernel" is not likely to return usable results and puts a huge load on the search server.

I see. Just wondering, how many machines do you use to run this site.

just want to mention that on dial up I have found some searches sloooww.

and sometimes I only want to use one keyword.

oh-well
