Is it possible to restore edited posts?

"Nominal Animal" has made many helpful posts here with lots of example code, but has deleted them due to a (now solved) misunderstanding. Is it possible to restore them, or are they actually gone from the database?

I user couldn't do it, but I suppose theoretically a backup copy may exist of those older posts, which could be retrieved if it absolutely had to be. Though I don't know how I feel about the idea of the LQ management taking the time to sort out some childish Internet drama.

Can't he do it by copying the info from the link "Last edited by Nominal Animal on ..", that link shows the versions of the edit.

MS3FGX,
Only the author of the post & mods of that forum can see a post's editing history, for them "Last edited by" appears as a link.

Given that he is still around, & the apologetic tone of his last edit, I have asked Nominal Animal to restore the originals: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post4296951

Follow up

Nominal Animal has responded positively to my request, but hasn't yet restored any posts. (It may take a while.)

I would have restored my posts earlier, had I realized the Last edited by link leads to the past versions of that post. A big thank you to you, Archtoad6, for bringing that to my attention.

I believe I have now restored all my posts in all threads. It did take me a few hours, since the post history did not retain whitespaces. For
...
sections this meant indentation was lost; I did my best to restore indentation by hand to maximize legibility.

If you notice any posts I may have missed or mis-restored or that just looks odd, please do let me know, so I can fix those too.

Thank you for all that work, I'm sure it's appreciated.

I skimmed the thread & can't see anything grossly wrong, but I can't write A or B, let alone C.

Let's hope no one has to take you up on your offer to do further fixing.

Again, thank you.
