A few reasons really. The biggie is that a lot of people used to delete their post after getting an answer. I want this forum to be an archive of past answers, so I stopped allowing people to delete. I can still delete posts though
i think we can edit into blank thread. and just paste "SORRY This thread has been removed by editor"
Exactly for this reason we have made editing posts impossible for our members if posts are older than 14 days. If you want your threads to be deleted you have to contact Jeremy.
I've actually stated that it would be nice if the site were to be able to resurrect things that people deleted. Because of the very reason that people delete useful stuff, for whatever reason. I can fully understand that people edit, either for clarification, or if they posted something bad and chose to remove it. My personal style is that if I do decide I went too far, I will edit, but I'll edit replacement text saying "removed my bad/poorly worded statements" and leave any remainder of the post that wasn't over the line.
And no such thing as a bad question or a highly complex question which never ends up being answered. I believe I have one or two dead threads where what I was asking was just too highly particular and there really was never any answer. I myself found an alternative way in spite of some great solution suggestions by other members.
If it was about this mutilated thread of yours then next time ask a moderator before acting on your own. A moderator could have closed the thread and pointed to the "right" thread. That is the way things should be.
