Well, after a long absense I treated myself to a glut of podcasts. The latest one (May 5?) had different music.
Hey! I liked the old music better, it describes the funky nature of LQ, the feel good friendly atmosphere. The podcast is not likely to reach a broader audience, it is more likely to stay something that only LQ users will listen to (no offense) And so I see no need for the change.
Also, the song is of differnent length to the awesome Freedom piece, making jeremy's first words inaudible.
I understand that sometimes change has to happen, but I want the freedom music back!

titanium_geek, the freedom clip was only temporary due to the CARP/RIAA licensing fees that would be involved. As for the audience, it's getting much wider exposure than just here at LQ (it's actually been many people first look at LQ). BTW, a new podcast was just posted today: http://radio.linuxquestions.org/
well ok then. I hope you fix the mixing/volume errors. :O)
Well, It was fun while it lasted. Don't worry, I'll still listen to the podcasts (I seem to be having trouble downloading the longer radio segments) I really enjoy them. Keep up the good work!
yeah- problem fixed in the latest podcast. I'm guessing that the songs were different lengths (freedom shorter) and so the mix (crossfade) kept the intro over your voice. But its fixed now.
yeah- I had a look at the bittorrent but I'm behind a proxy and a firewall so I might have to mess with it to get it to work.
the service provider is messing with our bandwith and connection (can anyone say: molasess?) so that is also the issue (200kb/s to 2kb/s sigh...)
thanks for all your hard work. The first 14 minutes of the show sound great!
a personal preference: pehaps you could look at shorter, 1/2 hour segments? I really like the short format of the podcasts and was like "1 hour? do I have time to listen to that?" So yeah, shorter bytes might be appreciated.

hmmm... here's a rhetorical question of a sort:
is there any reason why I (or any other person on a restricted connection) should listen to both? what does the show have over the podcast? (or just plain ole text, for that matter)
Is there any reason why the show is "so" long? what is the industry standard? (traditional radio and internet radio)
BTW couldn't you watercool your switch- it would be quieter (just as I think of it)
so there you go. I really like what you're doing with LQ (the forum and as a whole.) I will be an active participant for many years to come. These are just "thinking questions" so you can make it really good. REALLY good.

The show and the podcast are two very different things. The podcast is just me. It includes LQ updates and my thoughts on a couple of the weeks top news stories. The time range is usually about 5-15 minutes. The LQ Radio show is a panel discussion that includes myself and other LQ moderators. Each show will likely contain about four panelists and the time range is about 60-90 minutes. The show will eventually be live and will also include guests. Topics include news, tips and tricks, thoughts, pretty much anything. The LQ Radio show RSS feed also includes the LQ Radio Interview Series (already two releases if you haven't heard them yet) since those will tend to be longer also (30-90 minutes).
cool. Thats a really good clarification of what they are. Thanks.
A suggestion- perhaps in the future there might be an audience for 30min "howto" shows. A big topic could be broken up into many episodes, and simple topics could be combined together. I dunno. It might work- people perhaps would prefer a friendly voice guiding them then having to wade thru text.
Keep up the good work. I really like the stuff you're doing with LQ.
