sam9260 COMPILATION ERROR

HI

1)I ADDED THE GCC-LINARO TOOL CHAIN TO MY BASHRC AND EDITED

2)I EDITED THE MAKE FILE AND ADDED MY athello PROGRAM AND DID A MAKE
MAKE FILE IS LIKE THIS BELOW MENTIONED
all: ATHELLO
MAKEFILE
*************************************************************************
app4 : ATHELLO.c
arm-linux-gnueabi-gcc -s -Wl,-warn-common --static -o $@ $^
clean :
rm ATHELLO
*************************************************************************
BUT THE OUTPUT RESULTED IN

CC ATHELLO.C -O ATHELLO

BUT I HAVE SPECIFIED THE CROSS COMPILATION STILL IT TAKES CC WHY IS IT SO
EVEN THOUGH THE MAKEFILE HAS arm-linux-gnueabi-gcc AND THE PATH IS SET WHY IS THE SCRIPT TAKING CC

3) ATHELLO FILE WHEN EXECUTED WITH CHMOD 777 PERMISSION ON THE BOARD OF SAM9260
THE FOLLOWING ERROR POPS UP

line 1: syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")

WHAT IS THE ISSUE !!!
