Smile Just getting my feet wet. . .

Hi, I am just starting out with Linux. I plan to use a dual-boot with Windows XP (which I do dislike) just for those programs that may not work right with Linux or until I figure out how to make them work. I am the cautious type. I have worked long enough with Windows to be familiar with it, but not exactly comfortable. I have a new laptop, so I am just trying to get all the drivers and necessary programs set up for Windows before I venture into Linux.

My son-in-law has encouraged me to start out with Ubuntu. I guess it is supposed to be easy. I learn quickly, but I have played around a lot with computers and found that it doesn't take much effort to totally mess things up. So I have a bit of fear and trepidation at this point. I haven't got far enough yet to have problems, but I suspect that it won't be long. I hope there are those here who know more than I do about these things and are willing to be patient and help me out. Thanks in advance, and good to be here!

Just jump on in, Daisy! The water's fine! Be prepared to screw things up. It happens. It's no big deal. No one gets hurt... just a few inconvenienced electrons. You can always start again. It'll take you time, effort, and continued perseverance, but you can learn GNU/LInux.

Remember also... it's supposed to be FUN!

Welcome to LQ! Enjoy!
