Introduction of a newbie

Hi! My name is Bob Guest. I recently retired as an accountant for a government arts granting agency. I was heavily involved in creating MS Access databases and Excel workbooks. However now that I am retired (and having to pay for my own software!) I am looking into the option of using Linux. Quite a few years ago I installed a version of Ubuntu and used it until it crashed when it updated to a new version. At the time, I did not pursue the reasons why it crashed but while it worked it was intriguing as to what I could do with it. (I believe it was version 8).

I have subscribed to this web site along with some others and have picked up some magazines and books on Linux to determine which distro I should use. So far I have succeeded in totally confusing myself but that is usually how it works for me before the light suddenly comes on. I haven't fully decided what it is I will be doing on a computer now that I have retired which, of course, complicates the matter!<grin>

I am looking forward to asking questions of this group as I progress along the learning curve!!!

Howdy and Welcome. You can look left on what I run. I recently did a Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Icewm minimal install also.

A good reference for begineers
