hi Carol,

I'm not aware of linux XP pro. Are you sure you don't mean "Microsoft Windows XP Pro" or "PClinuxOS". Are you playing a little joke on us here maybe????

And, please don't use UPPER case characters in posts - it makes it hard to read...

Subject: Linux XP Pro 2006

Hi,

I have also seen the eBay auctions posted as Linux XP Pro 2006. However, the item being offered is actually "Linux XP Desktop" version 2006. I guess the dealer took some poetic selling liberties as I noticed he also calls PCLinuxOS "Linux XP Pro OS".

Anyway, The Linux you purchased originates from Russia and was released last December in Russian with the promise of the English translation (they were working on) coming out soon. I assume they completed work on it -- as that is what the dealer seems to be offering on eBay.

Bottom line is... I saw the Russian distribution booted (which is available for free download on their website) and it was on par with most. Personally, I think if you are really interested in learning Linux you need to do what all us newbie’s had to learn to do... Stop asking questions and listening to discussion boards long enough to insert the CD and TRY IT!

In fact... plan on trying lots of different distributions before you find one to fall in love with and keep in mind they are all similar and each can be personalized to fit your uniqueness. Perhaps it is best to look for the package that offers the best compatibility with the system and hardware you already own and don't get frustrated with the few things WINDOWS XP has that your distribution of Linux doesn't (which is becoming less and less all the time) and focus on what it does so much better!

Good Luck
