Interested in Linux for awhile tried Mandriva, invested a lot of $ with them, membership, original CD etc, but was never able to make any progress with that O.S. I almost quitted on Linux. But found a book by Robin Miller on Mepis. So will start from there. Other Linux that I would like to explore eventually, would be Suse Linux. Anyway taking it from there and expect that I will have better success with those distributions.
Welcome to LQ. You might want to give Slackware a shot. I love the simplicity and preformance of Slackware. It does take some hand editing of config file, but if I can do it anyone can. Good luck
I'm glad you're deciding to tough it out with Linux. I'll admit learning how to do various things in Linux is a bit hard at first, but everything I've learned about computing in the process has made it worth it. If you want to dig deep into Linux and understand how it really ticks I'd recommond the Linux From Scratch Project. The documentation are excellent and it'll give you a greater understand of the interworking of linux.
Thank You for taking the time to send me a Welcome. I appreciate your suggestions. I had heard about slackware, but never had time
to take a closer look at it. As for Linux from scratch, honestly
but if it is as I suspect should be an interesting learning project.
Hope to discuss with you about both programs, few months down the road !
