A quick "Hello" to introduce myself on the site. I have installed Ubuntu on a Sony Vaio machine for a friend, who I am supporting for a course she is doing which relies heavily on Ubntu and which offers no help at all with installing or using it.
I am really a Mac user (of nearly 30 years) and have happily managed to install Ubuntu on my MacBook Air in Virtual Box. The major issues I am having trouble with are being able to install software correctly - downloading is fine, but knowing what to do with raw downloads is defeating me. Lots of these downloads are for the course I mentioned above, often without any supporting installation info.
Will be asking lots of newbie questions on this and other areas!
